Ambien Addiction Treatment Center in Marietta, Georgia

Ambien, also known as zolpidem, is a sleep aid medication used to treat insomnia and related sleep disorders. Though this medication is a prescription drug, it still possesses the ability to cause dependence and, in severe instances, addiction when used over extended periods of time.

Our comprehensive ambien addiction treatment in Marietta, Georgia, includes treatment programs at Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery that are individualized to every single client, working to address their specific needs in a way that promotes long-term recovery. We understand that recovery from prescription medications takes a special type of program because there are underlying causes (insomnia) that also need to be addressed.

Understanding Ambien

Ambien belongs to a group of medications classified as central nervous system depressants. When taken, the drug binds to GABA receptors and slows down the central nervous system, allowing users to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Though prescribed to treat insomnia, Ambien should only be used for 1-2 weeks. Taking the medication for prolonged periods of time increases a person’s susceptibility to becoming dependent and addicted.

Doctors can prescribe Ambien as a tablet, a capsule, or an extended-release tablet. The dosage may depend on the individual person, the typical dosage range falls between 5 to 7 milligrams.

Ambien Addiction

Typically, Ambien is considered safe to use for a very short period of time, however it is considered a Schedule IV drug. This means that while it does have a legitimate medical use, it can also increase the risks for addiction. Taking Ambien longer than a week poses serious threat for tolerance buildup, meaning that the brain becomes reliant on more and more of the substance in order to achieve the same effects.

When taken, Ambien produces severel effects that may be seen as desirable. Though it is meant to put you to sleep, there are cases in which a person will take Ambien and then try to stay awake to feel those effects.

Ambien may cause a person to experience:

  • Relaxation
  • Lightheadedness
  • A sense of calm

When taking Ambien, users are cautioned not to drive or complete hazardous activities as it impairs a person’s ability to remain alert.

Ambien addiction typically begins with developing tolerance to the drug. An individual with a prescription may find that they want to take Ambien for longer than is prescribed, and as they do so, their brain requires an increased dosage to achieve the same effects. When stopped, the body may then induce withdrawal symptoms to prompt the person to continue their use.

Withdrawal symptoms from Ambien may look like:

  • Rebound Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Mood Swings
  • Panic Attacks
  • Depression
  • Stomach Pain
  • Cravings
  • Suicidal Thoughts
  • Seizures

Withdrawal from Ambien can be incredibly intense and difficult to get through alone. This is why people often continue their use at higher doses, thus leading to addiciton.

Ambien Addiction Treatment in Marietta, Georgia

Ambien Addiction Treatment in Marietta, Georgia

Though every experience looks different, medical professionals tend to agree that Ambien substance abuse treatment should begin with detoxification, followed by inpatient or outpatient treatment through a rehab facilitty that specializes in addressing Ambien abuse.

Detox

Ambien dependency often leads to withdrawal symptoms, and those are difficult to overcome alone as the symptoms can be painful and uncomfortable. Seeking professional help through the detoxification process can not only make withdrawal easier, but it can improve outcomes of recovery as well.

Though Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery does not currently offer in-house detox, our program is coming soon. We will make sure that each of our clients receives the care that they need.

Detox may include inpatient care depending on the level of need, and doctors might prescribe different medications to help minimize symptoms. This is known as medication-assisted treatment, and though it may not be needed, it is certainly an option.

Outpatient Care

Once the detoxification process is complete, our clients have access to several different outpatient treatment plans. We understand that every single client is different, so we work closely with you to determine what program is the best fit and which treatment options will provide the most benefit.

We also offer several aftercare program options for all of our clients.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our most intensive level of care is called partial hospitalization program. Contrary to the name, clients are not hospitalized during their time with us. PHP consists of a certain number of daily hours of treatment Monday through Friday, and clients then go home or to their sober living community in the evening.

Each morning, clients will check in and go through the assessment process. Clients may participate in drug or alcohol screenings, preliminary therapy sessions, or peer socialization. After this, their schedule may include any combination of the following:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Medication Management
  • Holistic Therapy

Individual and group therapy sessions offer our clients a unique opportunity to build positive coping skills, develop healthier habits, and identify triggers or co-occurring conditions that may have led to Ambien addiction.

We also feel that combining holistic therapy options, such as yoga, meditation, fitness, breath work, and more, allows clients the opportunity to heal their entire body. Holistic care is especially beneficial for clients with mental health disorders as it provides ongoing support once they complete treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

For clients who need less intensive care or for those who have already completed inpatient treatment or PHP, we offer a more flexible option through our IOP program. IOP includes individual and group therapy for a few hours each week.

The schedule depends on the time commitment of each client. Our treatment team works with each person to determine how many days a week makes sense and for how many hours of that day treatment is necessary. Evidence-based treatments are utilized in our customized treatment plans in conjunction with holistic services, allowing our outpatient programs to address the entire client, not just the symptoms of the drug abuse. The main goal of IOP is to enhance coping strategies clients learn and ensure that those strategies are used on a daily basis.

Evening IOP

At Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery, we understand that most people don’t have the luxury of seeking addiction recovery during the day. This can be due to a number of reasons, such as work or family care. Because of this, we have designed an evening addiction treatment program that meets the needs and schedule of a lot of our clients.

Our evening IOP program runs on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. Clients come to our facility from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on those evenings to participate in individual and group therapies. We’ve found that participating in both one on one treatment as well as becoming involved in support groups really helps our clients through their recovery process.

Our Drug Rehab Services

At Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery, all of our addiction specialists work with each client to develop a program specific to their needs. With clients suffering from Ambien substance abuse, there are often dual diagnosis treatments that need to be utilized as well.

Our team values each client’s recovery journey, and we understand the importance of a well-rounded drug addiction plan. The services we offer may include:

  • Evidence-Based Therapies: We utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), accelerated resolution therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, rapid resolution therapy, EMDR, and trauma therapy to name a few.
  • Holistic Approaches: Substance use disorder treatment isn’t just about the short-term. Our goal is to ensure that every client develops the skills and habits needed for when they leave our outpatient rehab program. Yoga, equine-assisted therapy, nutritional counseling, and mindfulness training all offer clients new hobbies and skills that can help manage recovery outside of treatment and prevent relapse.
  • Dual Diagnosis Care: We recognize that most people seeking Ambien addiction treatment also struggle with underlying mental health issues like insomnia, anxiety, or other complications. Because of this, our programs are designed to address the entire person, not simply manage side effects of Ambien.
  • Relapse Prevention: Each client that steps through our doors becomes family, and we believe in a world where drug addiction no longer plagues the lives of so many. We never stop caring about our clients, even when they leave our treatment center to live out the rest of their lives. We offer long-term outpatient services that promote relapse prevention and ensure that our clients never find themselves feeling alone.
