Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a therapeutic strategy designed to quickly address and relieve emotional distress and trauma. ART combines facets of traditional talk therapy with guided imagery and eye movement techniques. The primary goal of ART is to alter the way traumatic memories are processed and stored in an individual’s brain. As a result, the emotional intensity associated with these painful past experiences should be reduced.
ART works by guiding clients through visualizations and specific eye movement exercises that help them reframe and process upsetting memories. This allows individuals to diminish the emotional distress linked with these memories,—leading to significant relief from symptoms of conditions such as substance use disorder, PTSD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression. Overall, ART aims to provide swift and effective emotional healing by reshaping the impact of troubling experiences.
ART can be effective in treating a wide range of disorders. These include mental health conditions, drug addiction, and alcoholism. Additionally, our programs can help those with a dual diagnosis, which refers to co-occurring substance use and mental illness. Specific mental health disorders that can be improved through Accelerated Resolution Therapy include but are not limited to the following:
There are several benefits of ART for addiction. The most rewarding of these is aiding clients in their overall journey to sustainable sobriety. Additional benefits include:
Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery is a Georgia-based center offering a full suite of outpatient services. We integrate a variety of experiential and evidence-based therapies into these programs to ensure the best treatment outcomes for our clients. Each of our programs is specifically-tailored to meet each individual’s needs. Since our treatment is outpatient, clients are able to reside at home—given their environment is stable—or at a sober living facility. We integrate Accelerated Resolution Therapy into the following program types:
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): The most intensive treatment available at Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery is the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). PHP sessions are held five days a week, with each session lasting about four hours.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): IOPs are often used as a step down from more intensive treatment modalities. Participants attend IOP sessions three to five days a week, with each session lasting several hours.
Outpatient Program (OP): Traditional outpatient programming helps clients reintegrate into society while continuing to receive support. Our goal is to equip clients with the coping skills necessary for achieving lasting recovery.
During OP, clients attend one individual therapy session along with the option to add 1-2 group sessions per week. This adds up to a total of 3-4 hours of programming where each session must occur on different days of the week.
